This weekend, I’m off to Ryton near Coventry to go to “The Original Re-Enactors’ Market”. It’s a bi-annual affair, held in November and March, at either end of the reenactment season (i.e. When it’s warm enough to camp!). Even if you’re not involved I recommend a visit to see the fantastic array of historical replicas, costumes and books on sale. I have two pairs of shoes to be repaired and also have in mind a special birthday present…and Christmas shopping, naturally…
In the seventeenth century, New Year was the time for the giving of gifts. I’m not sure when the change happened, but for those of us who prefer to stick with the old ways – that gives you a bit of extra time to get sorted out!
